An introduction to MiniCat Western Australia (WA).

Based in Perth WA, John Barnard and his family have been Exclusive MiniCat Distributors for Western Australia since 2023.

We’re the Barnard family – a young family living in Perth, Western Australia, who love camping and exploring the West Australian coastline. With two active kiddos and our dog in tow, MiniCat has become a wonderful part of our lifestyle.  

Our journey with MiniCat started a few years ago. I (John) spent over 10 years on the water, kitesurfing through my 20’s, and developed a love for being out on the water. When my family came along, I was searching for a way of translating that love of water sports into an activity we could all do together, and that’s when I found MiniCat.

These sailboats are the perfect fit for what I had been looking for – a boat that we could take away on our camping holidays, and with the engine mount it allows us to get out in all conditions, sailing when it’s windy or snorkelling/fishing when it’s calm.

I grew up on a farm in Zimbabwe and can remember asking my parents for a laser at the age of six – it was never something they were able to get but with our kids being five and six this year I am keen to give them the opportunity of learning to sail the Guppy themselves. This exceptional little catamaran packs up to nothing and can be setup in less than 10 minutes. It will be the perfect introduction to sailing for them.

We loved MiniCat so much that I decided to turn our pleasure and enjoyment into a business and bring the joy of MiniCat sailing to others here in Western Australia.
