Main characteristics
420 Emotion is constructed as a serious sport boat as opposed to more recreational style of the previous models. The most visible difference is in the sport monofilm main sail design. With 420 Instinct the boom is placed a lot higher, in the tunnel, making it safer for boating with kids because you it can’t hit their heads. However, the profile of the sail is lowered and so it is less effective and efficient. In contrast, sail on 420 Emotion is designed as a traditional sail of racing sailboats with the boom in the bottom (see photos). This effective profile of sail is more efficient when sailing. The sail at 420 Emotion is also made from a different material - transparent monofilm. This material is not as flexible as dacron and it is an advantage with this boat. The material is used in the vast majority of the sails of surfboards, but also sailboats.
-
Apart from this main visible change, 420 Emotion has other very good and efficient improvements.
The cable in the front of the jib
It is a practical thing mainly when assembling the boat. As opposed to Instinct with 420 Emotion you can assemble the boat without the jib and the jib can be then as a last thing pulled in the same manner as the main sail.
kiking
There are different pulleys. Pulleys are doubled, so it's a multiple hoist of the sail and tension is stronger.
End of the boom
It can be seen that stretching of the sail is adjustable. A very simple way to set the depth of the "belly" and the sails so you can play with the sail efficiency.
Reins of the main sail
The pulley with jam is not fixed to the steering lever, but to the rope that is attached to the edge of the frame. The reason is that the steering lever is aluminum and the high stress of the main sail could cause loosening of the rivets.
rudder
The entire rudder and the rudder system are different. The new rudder is designed for higher speed. It is narrower and shaped so that the leading edge is as far in the front as possible. That’s why it is easier to operate at higher speeds. At the version of Instinct the rudder is very sensitive rudder when sailing slower, but at higher speeds there is much more power needed to control it. The rudder for 420 Emotion is made in white, for an extra charge we can offer in the carbon version (as seen on this photo).
trampoline
At first glance, there is an obvious difference. Diagonally sewn straps on trampoline reinforce it in the most exposed places. In addition, there is rubber grille in the front for mounting things. There are metal buckles used here on the strap instead of plastic ones like on the version of Instinct.
Tension of the ropes holding the mast
By changing the tension you can change the inclination of the mast. It is again the standard for all racing sailboats.
